San Antonio Spurs forward Tobias Harris (calf) will miss his second consecutive game Friday against the Houston Rockets. Harris continues to recover from a left calf strain and has yet to make his Spurs debut. The 34-year-old veteran averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists across 63 starts for Detroit last season before signing a two-year, $31 million deal with San Antonio. His next opportunity to suit up comes Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks. Julian Champagnie and Devin Vassell remain appealing streaming options while Harris is sidelined.
San Antonio Spurs forward Tobias Harris (calf) will miss the preseason after suffering a left calf strain in training camp, according to ESPN's Michael C. Wright. Harris will be reevaluated after San Antonio's five-game exhibition schedule and is questionable for the Oct. 20 opener against Oklahoma City. The 34-year-old averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists across 63 starts for Detroit last season before signing a two-year, $31 million deal with San Antonio. His absence gives Julian Champagnie a chance to strengthen his case for a starting role, while Harrison Barnes and Carter Bryant could also see more preseason minutes.
Free-agent forward Tobias Harris is signing a two-year, $31 million contract with the San Antonio Spurs, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The 15-year veteran fills a need on the Spurs' roster: a stretch four who can create plays off the dribble and rebound. Harris averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists on 46.9% shooting from the field and 36.8% from downtown last season as a starter in Detroit. He may not be a starter in San Antonio. The team found success with Julian Champagnie, who just signed a new deal himself, in the starting lineup in the second half of the season. Either way, expect a decrease in usage for Harris on what is a much deeper roster.
